Mechanism of Action:
- Diazepam is a benzodiazepine that acts on the central nervous system by enhancing the action of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), an inhibitory neurotransmitter, leading to a reduction in neuronal activity and producing anxiolytic, anticonvulsant, sedative, and muscle relaxant effects.
- Drug Interactions:
- Alcohol and other central nervous system depressants can enhance the sedative effects.
- CYP3A4 inhibitors (such as ketoconazole) can increase blood levels of diazepam
